allnurses Positive Thread

It seems that some threads here on allnurses get a lot of attention tend to being? negative, whether they be about professional or personality problems.

So, hey- this thread is aimed at the positive attributes of the allnurses' website, anything past or present.

I have oft stated that allnurses is my favorite website and one of the reasons is that it that's because it focuses on the career of my calling, which was nursing. In being associated with allnurses for over a decade, I have felt closeness,?camaraderie, and a kind of kinship with my virtual colleagues. I have learned lots of techy stuff and have been exposed to alternative viewpoints the like I had not previously considered.

allnurses also allows me to communicate and express myself in a way that utilizes my bliss, which is art. Loading up images has much improved since the upgrade of December '19. Before the upgrade, if I noticed a typo or an area on which I wanted to improve on an uploaded image, I'd have to ask a mod or administrator to delete the old image and upload?the edited one. sirI, among others, were?always amicable in performing this task for me

Since the upgrade, I can now delete the old image and load up an edited one all. by. myself!

And even when I was working full time at Rightway (I want to stay positive!) Regional Medical Center, I visited allnurses at least once daily.

Soooooo.... what do you think are?some of the positive attributes of the allnurses' website-?anything past or present?

When my father died 3 or 4 years back the people on Allnurses were extremely nice and supportive. Simple things like chatting over on the Daily Diary side helped me.

Yes, yes I know this is going to sound like I'm blowing smoke where the sun don't shine but... Seeing your cartoons and observations?Davey makes my day. Some of your stuff is superb (what only some of it I hear you cry) and a lot of it is funny and insightful.

Talking to Americans (albeit through a computer) is?interesting. It is fun to see different perspectives from real people and not just the loudmouths that populate social media. It is strange to talk to people who sometimes have such different opinions that I cannot understand them?or?why - not a criticism.

Discussing a wide variety of issues with a wide variety of people even though sometimes I feel like slapping some of you.??????

The fun of the "Game of Groans" and the "TV - the good, bad and ugly" posts on the Lounge area in the Breakroom.

These are the things that bring me back to Allnurses.

I was on this website a while back when I was a student and a newer nurse and I read everything I could and?I learned a lot from more experienced nurses. I came back in the fall, when I found myself with some time available, and thought that maybe I could contribute something to other nurses looking for feedback. And, surprisingly, I haven't learned everything so I still have questions and am learning every day.

I appreciate the support, the advice, the amusement of certain debates, the mix of personalities, the artwork, and the chance to unwind with a group of people that I can relate to in different ways?than my IRL contacts, few of whom are nurses.?

I joined Allnurses when another nursing forum I was using crashed and burned. What I really enjoy is being in touch with nurses from everywhere and getting insights on things I had not considered. I am a person of deeply held belief and sometimes I need the feedback I receive here. Other times I am just winding down or up for a shift. It gives me the opportunity to share both?challenges and succeses?in my career/personal endevors through the break room.

Allnurses has been my window to the wider world of nursing outside of my unit. Everyone here has taught me so much.?

DavidFR, BSN, MSN, RN

I like the International perspective. Communicating with Americans and others gives me a broader outlook on things.?

I like the Oncology section as it allows me to discuss and think about things specific to my own speciality for example problems accessing Port-a-caths. As an ex occy health nurse and ex ID nurse I like looking into those sections as a trip down memory lane.

I like Nurse Beth's articles. Her piece on intersex children and surgery was excellent.

I like that the exchanges are?usually adult and respectful with people I disagree with. Good moderating promotes that.

I love it when people like my posts. Don't we all?

While this may only be the internet and we don't really know each other, we do get a little glimpse into people's personalities and get to like other posters. For example, I'd like to do a night shift with The Moon Is My Lantern as I'm sure we'd work well together.? I'd also like to have a few beers with the boys (GrumpyRN and DaveyDo) as I think they'd be cool cats to hang out with.

amoLucia

Specializes in LTC.

I really enjoy when something clinical is described for those of us who know just a little bit.?But not enough! Am always learning something new.

Posts on?the 'blue side' are gentler and?more personal.?Like comfortable slippers or a sweater. In these crazy times,?support is immeasurable.?

It is so good that you could could get comfort and support from your virtual friends after the loss of your father, Grumpy.

Although not nearly as emotionally attached, the allnurses members were a godsend when I was going through problems at Rightway. Reading their posts gave me different perspectives and kept me on my toes. The transitional process to retirement was definitely made easier?due to allnurses.

I will do my art no matter what, but appreciation such as yours really gives me a lift, thank you Grumpy. It is so good that you can connect with my art and it brings a little joy into your life. I do my art for me, but I am drawn?toward sharing it with others, the don't hide your light under a bushel thing.

It's also interesting to hear from you and your perspective from across?the pond, Grumpy.

Contributing is what motivated me, also, JBMmom.

My medical nurse wife to be, Belinda, back in '09, was the one who knocked over the first domino for me: Had she not requested, after a river road bicycle trip,?to go to the next town to look at yard art, I wouldn't have bought my '51 Chevy pickup, became a member on an antique Chevy pickup website, and wanted to share my knowledge as the mechanics on that site did.

I put nursing support in my search engine and the rest is history!

We all need others to give us feedback, especially when our perspective and/or behavior is skewed for whatever reason, eh hppygr8ful?

I have found your submissions?to be quite interesting perspectives, and I have learned a thing or three because of you, DavidFR.

We get a feeling from the?posts, don't we? "Moon" is one who provides quality patient care, would have our backs, and not be too difficult with which?to be around.

And thank you for the kind words, DavidFR.

I, too,?could see a threeway bromance thing going on.

Yeah, amoLucia. I know just enough clinical to be dangerous.

But my brain hasn't atrophied nearly what it would have,?had it not been for allnurses and Belinda.

I really like the difference of opinions! People tend to be more honest when anonymous. It works for me because I never share anything with anyone but I feel comfortable letting people in my life and knowing it can't be used against me.?

I like the variety of articles especially since I have relegated myself to Psych and Sub Abuse mostly. I also like that people share similar views to my own again because I don't share, it becomes difficult to get feedback from others.?

It's actually very freeing and I look forward to doing something other than reading, except when I am working of course. I tend to go out and have a few pints, if I am not at my parents being fed by mother or at my older sister who doesn't feed me, but I get to play with my nephew and nieces.?

Yeah, I like allnurses ????.?

And opinions are ubiquitous, yet not always benevolent, as microbes, aye Curious?

Seriously, opposing viewpoints challenge my own, and those not carved in concrete are always open for consideration. Those carved in concrete can weather whatever is thrown at them, and I usually have no desire to sway another's opinions to mine.

If we are comfortable in our own?beliefs, that's just where we all want to be.

Have a pint on me next time, Curious!

Well I think with the anonymity, it allows people to clarify their opinions better and you are not distracted by extraneous things like looks, smells etc. I'm a reader, so I find the written word easier.?

Different opinions challenges your own thought processes especially if they are structured and logical. It expands my horizons.?

And expanding one's horizons is another way of saying heightening one's consciousness as the result of an illuminating revelation.

Plus tax.

It's a space for thinking.

It's a study in human nature,? including one's own thoughts and beliefs.

I like hearing about a variety of healthcare-related situations around the country and seeing how others process them. Since it's organized around our profession the information becomes useful in a way that is different than consuming the news/news sources. It has helped me figure out some things, see a bigger picture and put some stuff into perspective. Which has been personally important. I have made some positive decisions that I am pleased with and am not sure I otherwise would have.

I guess...one can practically figure out life, right here...if one is so inclined. ??

There are also fun, smart, interesting and kind people. You can learn something from everyone.
